The Project

This section of a Malvern re-roof came with its own challenge — a steep 45° pitch. On a roof that sharp, every part of the job takes more care: getting up there safely, setting the sheets out dead straight, and detailing the flashings so the whole thing finishes clean and stays watertight. It's the kind of roof where the difference between a good job and an average one shows up straight away.
The Challenge
A 45° pitch changes how the whole job has to be approached:
- Safety and access — a pitch that steep means proper height safety and edge protection before any work starts, and a slower, more deliberate pace across the roof
- Set-out — sheets have to be run perfectly square and straight, because on a steep pitch any drift in the lines is obvious from the ground
- Flashing detail — the chimney, valleys, gable and skylights all need flashings formed and lapped correctly so water is carried past them cleanly rather than sealed over
- A clean finish — with the roof this visible, the barge lines, ridge and penetrations all have to sit sharp and consistent
What We Did

We set the job up for the pitch from the start — height safety in place, then the sheets run out square and straight across the face. The skylights were set out so the sheets carry water cleanly past each opening, with flashings formed to suit rather than relying on sealant to do the work. Around the chimney, valleys and gable, each flashing was measured, folded and lapped so the roof drains as a system and finishes flush against every edge. A whirlybird was fitted to keep the roof cavity ventilated.
The Result

The finished roof is exactly what a steep pitch should look like when it's done properly — straight, consistent sheet lines, crisp flashings, and skylights and penetrations that sit flush and watertight. It sheds water perfectly, ties in cleanly against the chimney and the timber-lined gable, and gives the home a sharp, modern roofline that holds up to being seen from every angle. Another one done right.
