The Project

This Gembrook home was a full tile-to-Colorbond conversion on a 1970s property. The existing tiled roof had run its course — cracked tiles, ongoing replacements, and the kind of dated roofline that comes with a home of that era. The owners wanted a long-term fix that would bring the home up to modern standards in both performance and appearance.

The Problems

The ageing tile roof presented a number of issues that had only worsened over time:

  • Cracked and slipping tiles requiring constant maintenance and replacement
  • Poor thermal performance, making the home uncomfortable in summer heat and cold winters
  • No roof cavity ventilation, leading to heat build-up and moisture risk
  • An outdated roofline that detracted from the home's street appeal and overall value

What We Did

We stripped the old tiles back to the battens, inspected the underlying timber, and installed a new 0.60mm Colorbond roof with a full R1.3 insulation blanket. A whirly bird ventilator was added to the roof cavity, and all gutters, downpipes, and flashings were replaced as part of the job.

The Result

The transformation speaks for itself. What was once a tired, high-maintenance tiled roof is now a sleek, modern Colorbond finish that dramatically lifts the home's street appeal. The R1.3 insulation blanket improves year-round thermal comfort and helps with noise reduction during heavy rain, while the whirly bird keeps the roof cavity ventilated without drawing any electricity. The owners now have a durable, low-maintenance roof built to handle the Melbourne climate for decades to come.
